Diminutive Post

I can't believe how long it has been since my last post - I seem to be getting worse instead of better, but I have to confess that most of my time has been taken up with researching my family tree lately, and oh boy, is that addictive!

I also can't believe that I still have not started on "Elizabeth".  I wanted her so badly but still haven't put the needle to the linen.   The main reason (here comes the excuses ..) is that I think it needs to go on the frame but it is just a bit too wide for my frame and I was going to get another, but I think I will try to fold the edges in and see if it can still be wound with the double thickness.  The pattern is a little different from any others I have done so hope I will be able to work it out.  Oh well, anticipation of a new project is always part of the fun, so hopefully I will get to it soon.  It is definitely next on the list.

What I did start back in the middle of June was CHS Diminutive Dutch, using the 40 count linen and the threads called for in the pattern.  I just had to try the smaller count linen and I have to say I found it very easy to work with.

There are only three colours - I know you can't tell, but the colours are from the outside of the border - a teal; then olive, then brown.  All of the letter A is done in the brown and the flower in the teal.  It is quite tiny and I have no idea what I will do with it when finished.  I though maybe a little needle pocket but the abc will be running the wrong way, so we will see.

I have had a small finish but I can't post it just yet, so till next time, happy stitching!

Mary

Note to self:    "See, that didn't take too long, did it ?"

What a pretty start, Mary. And I just adore your last posting of your cardinal finish. What a beauty. I really think I need to add that one to my "must stitch" pile :)

Good luck with your genealogy research--it really can be addicting, but then so is stitching, isn't it? Better those addictions, than others, that's for sure :)

I love your Diminutive Dutch Sampler so far. I also love the other pieces you've done, especially your Blessings sampler. Beautiful! I assume others have answered about the linens. I think R&R uses both Zweigart and Wichelt as the base fabric so it depends on the luck of the draw with them. But lakeside uses Zweigart and sometimes Graziano. I love Lakeside, and now I'm getting into the WDW linens too.

I love your new start, the thread colours look great on that linen. Perhaps you could finish it as a needleroll/huswif type of thing, rather than a pocket maybe?

Oh yes, researching your family tree definitely becomes addictive - alot of fun too!

Love your CHS piece. I need a magnifying glass and my glasses even to stitch on 32ct these days so I've shied away from trying anything near 40ct but there are times when I think I should really give it a go. I might find it not as difficult as I think. Look forward to following your progress on this one.

Hi Mary

Glad you found the 40ct linen easy. It is lovely to work on. It is often hard to fit all the things we want to do into the time we have to do them isn't it. Yes, from the little bit of Genealogy I have tried doing I can see it could become very addictive.
Enjoy your new start.

DD is coming along nicely, it will be lovely when it's finished. I'm pleased to hear that you are finding 40 count linen easy, I jumped from 32 count to 40, without the 36 in between, but find it OK, except for the over one bits.

Hi Mary,
You've made a great start on your DD Sampler.
I've seen that design on another blog recently and love it.
I love your BD piece in the previous post also.
I love working on 40ct linen. Flax is one of my favourites.
Thanks so much for the congrats on my being one of the winners on the BD blog.
As you can imagine thrilled does not even begin to describe it!
